Tips for Work Experience section:

  • Follow reverse chronological order when mentioning your work experience, with your current or most recent job position at the top.
  • Use full job titles, instead of using abbreviations. For instance Software Engineer versus SE.
  • Do not include work experience that is older than 20 years.
  • We suggest you enter experience in bullet points.

Tips for Education section:

  • List your degrees in reverse chronological order, with the most recent one on the top.
  • Remove your graduation date if your degree is older than ten years.
  • Do not mention your high school if you have attended college.
  • Create a separate section for certifications and training programs.

Tips for Skills:

  • List only those skills which are relevant to the job that you are seeking.
  • Keep this list to a maximum of 6-8 skills.
  • Try and not use more than 3 words to describe each skill.
  • Only include skills that you actually possess and can demonstrate.
  • Do mention any skill set that is considered scarce.
  • Add in certain soft skills like 'Affable Personality' or 'Problem Solving Skills'.

Tips for Professional Summary:

  • Jot down a crisp paragraph that highlights your capability as a professional in your field of work. Limit it up to a maximum of 6 lines.
  • Use keywords that let the recruiter understand your current standing as well as your future goals. For instance, a 'Dedicated Sales Professional' informs the reader that you are willing to put in the hard work and the hours, but a 'Driven Sales Manager' informs the reader that not only are you capable of leading a team, but are also looking forward to advancement opportunities!
  • Make sure to include your key skills and accomplishments in the summary. However, do that without using "I". This helps maintain the much-needed professional touch in the statement.

  • Leave out any jobs that you might have done for a temporary basis (for less than 3 to 6 months). State only the years instead of the conventional start and end dates to avoid gaps in your work history. For instance mention 2017-2019, instead of March, 2017 to April 2019.
